CUSTOM FURNITURE. These custom-designed pieces of furniture were crafted for the Villas at Mauna Kea. The first piece is a side table or "temple" table in the Arts and Crafts style, circa 1910. It shows elements of both Japanese and Chinese influence.

The dining chair also reflects the exposed peg joinery that typified Japanese Cottage Craft. The three-drawer chest echoes the influence of Mackintosh, the Scottish designer who himself was influenced by things Oriental.
